Birth & Postpartum Doula Madison WI

This was our first baby and I cannot imagine any other way than with having Denise by our side through it all. When I went into labor, Denise was willing to come or text with my partner and this was so supportive as we wanted to stay home as long as we could. We had planned to birth at Meriter, but also wanted to be at home for a lot of the labor. With Denise’s help, we did that, and we both felt so held.

There are times I now hold my little babe and I try to remember the wordless touch and care that Denise gave during the birth. I can only hope I can give this same kind of comfort to our son. Her encouragement to follow my intuition helped me strengthen my intuition, and her suggestions, guidance, softness, and strength were exactly what we needed. I was forever changed for the better after my partner and I and our new babe were supported by Denise. I learned to trust my body, felt the warmth and strength of her presence, and am forever grateful to her for helping us bring this baby earth side.

When I found out I was pregnant with my second, I was immediately anxious. After a long, challenging, and unsatisfactory birth with my first that ended in an unplanned c-section, I knew I needed more support this time but was nervous about spending the money. From the first zoom call to learn about Denise’s services and approach, I felt a huge sense of relief. Within the first few minutes of the consultation, my walls came down and I felt like I was talking to a close friend. She has such a gift for helping you process previous birth experiences. I felt completely seen and heard, and empowered to rewrite my birth story and pursue an unmedicated VBAC. I’m so grateful I trusted myself enough to hire her and take the plunge. If you are also on the fence about spending the money - please do what you can to give yourself this gift. Denise not only supported me through pregnancy and having the birth I wanted, but she helped me heal from my first birth which was a completely unexpected bonus and for that I am so grateful. "As far as doulas (and humans) go, Denise is exceptional. We used a doula for the birth of our first child and were underwhelmed by the experience, so we knew to be more discerning when choosing a doula for the birth of our second, and that is how we found Denise. She met all of our criteria: the basics — she was warm, maternal, and experienced (both with birthing clients and as a birther herself, everything from unmedicated births to epidurals and C-sections) as well as the more advanced — she was familiar with all ways of giving birth and navigating options for when things (inevitably) don’t perfectly follow the birth plan. She took the time to understand us as a couple and as a family. She gained a deep understanding of our values and partnered with us to plan coping strategies (affirmations, mantras, aromatherapy, tensing, and breath work) that were aligned with the birth experience we were hoping to have. Through several false labor starts, Denise was super responsive to every text and call, and for several weeks after our son was born continued to check in and provide support. For the actual birth, Denise’s daughter had painted illustrations of my affirmations, and she reminded me of those affirmations throughout labor while massaging my lower back, providing strong counter pressure through contractions, and showing my husband how to do the same. Thanks to Denise, we both felt so supported and safe through the entire experience and were able to welcome our beautiful baby boy into the world exactly the way we wanted. "We will forever be grateful that our paths crossed with Denise on our journey to parenthood. Her role as our doula extended far beyond the day of our daughter's birth. She was with us every step of the way in our pregnancy and early postpartum -- available day or night virtually due to the pandemic -- to answer questions where she could, provide emotional support, and encourage us to trust our instincts when involving our primary care providers. Her calm demeanor was a reassuring presence for both of us, especially during some stressful moments leading up to the birth. "I honestly loved your support during labor even though I was a tad lazy and not want to get up as much. I loved how you taught me to keep breathing through each contraction. Even though I felt like I couldn't do it you made me feel 10x stronger than I already am. Having you there was like having an angel guide me through everything.
